The Meuse is at its most picturesque as it makes its way across the province of Namur, in a narrow and steep-sided channel. Shale-covered, wooded slopes alternate with hard rocks, which are exposed, framing the river and forming magnificent, steep slopes, narrow shafts, slender high peaks, or, often, deep caves.
