At the centre of this square is Munich's new synagogue, inaugurated in 2006, 68 years after the "Night of Broken Glass" (Kristallnacht), when pogroms took place and Jewish places of worship were destroyed. A school and community centre are attached to the synagogue to create a cross-generational place with a focus on the present and the future. The museum explores the past by recalling the history of Munich's Jewish population.
