This is the last shipyard where dhows, the pot-bellied boats of the Arabian Gulf, are built. A workshop from another era, with the Manama skyline as a backdrop. Building a dhow is a matter of transmission. In place of a plan, the carpenters use their memory: they reproduce the techniques and shapes learnt from their master, usually an elder member of the family.
