Opened in 1992, this innovative museum occupies a building that was constructed as an Olympic cycling venue, the velodrome, whose shape bears a strong resemblance to a cyclist's helmet. Re-created habitats, complete with climatic regulators, support plants and animals indigenous to four ecosystems: a tropical forest, the Laurentian forest, the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the subpolar region.
