A buffalo and Native American pathway for centuries, 800ft-high Cumberland Gap was discovered by white explorers in 1750 but became popular only after Daniel Boone made expeditions through it in 1775. The 20,000-acre national historical park encompasses the long, high ridge of Cumberland Mountain, offering spectacular vistas and 70mi of hiking trails. Best for views: the steep, curving drive from the visitor center up to Pinnacle Overlook.
