Founded in the 14C, this is the largest male religious house in the country. It is preceded by a stoup topped by an onion dome (1847). Inside the perimeter wall, the main church stands in a vast bare courtyard. Built in 1497 by Stefan cel Mare, it is seen as the apogee of Moldavian religious architecture: harmonious proportions, Gothic windows, octagonal tower, decorative elements (blind niches, enamel brick registers, painted ceramic roundels). Inside, sombre pictures depict saints' martyrdoms.
