In the context of his "industrial city" project, brainchild of Lyon architect, Tony Garnier (1869-1948), in which utopia and reason are closely entwined, the Grande Halle of La Mouche abattoirs was built in 1914. The 18,000m2 contiguous edifice is 24m high and entirely devoid of supporting pillars. Neglected for many years, this masterpiece of glass, iron and concrete architecture has become a venue for shows and concerts.
