The recently renovated Place de la Liberté is the hub of most of the town's action. At one end, there is a statue by Étex of General Lecourbe; at the other end is the Rococo façade of the theatre, which has a clock that plays two bars of La Marseillaise before sounding the hours. The city's emblem is its clock tower, which used to defend the entrance to the fortified town.
