The popularity of the residential borough of Islington is no small part down to its elegant Georgian squares and rows of Victorian terraced houses. The area has an interesting mix of gentrified and working-class enclaves: trendy restaurants, bars, antique shops, arthouse cinemas and avant-garde theatres wedged between outdoor markets and social housing. Upper Street is the busiest thoroughfare, while Camden Passage is surrounded by more discreet little streets.
