In the Old Town centre, the imposing Hauptplatz houses still testify to the wealth of the former ironmasters: see the Hacklhaus (no 9), built c 1660, and the lovely corner tower of the old town hall (1568). There are fine old houses in Homanngasse: the 13C Schwammerlturm, a tower named after its mushroom-shaped roof.
