More than 20,000 enlisted troops, 1,200 of whom were killed or wounded. Magersfontein Anglo-Boer War Museum relates the horror of this battle which the Boers won against the British. The battle took place on 11 December 1899 and was part of the Anglo-Boer War or "second war of independence", as Afrikaner historians call it.
