A majestic mountainous setting serves as backdrop for the tranquil village of Khong Chiam, located far from the main tourist trail. Here, the brown waters of the Mekong and the green waters of the Mun give rise to the Mae Nam Song, the "river of colours". A boat trip is the perfect way to view this phenomenon at close hand. Heading north from Khong Chiam, make a detour to the Wat Tham Khuha Suwan, overlooking the river bank: the view of Laos is superb, along with the Mekong opposite, which extends far into the distance.
