The largest temple of this historic site is still a high-place of worship. Wat Phra Kaeo is worth a visit for its impressive group of Buddhas, two large seated Buddhas surrounding a splendid reclining Buddha, typical of the Ayutthaya style, which are the object of great veneration. This wat, as its name suggests, is said to have once housed the famous Emerald Buddha, now kept in Bangkok in the temple of the same name. Note the chedi, the base of which is decorated with elephants.
