Isla Mujeres offers a chance to enjoy a perfect shoreline and swimming conditions, particularly on the heavenly Playa Norte, without the heavy tourist influx of Cancún (12km away). We recommend spending the night and touring it on a motorbike to get the most out of the island, whose name may come from the numerous statuettes of Ixchel (goddess of Fertility) found here by the Spanish in the 16C.
