The Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site is housed in a splendid Beaux-Arts residence designed by architects McKim, Mead and White for Frederick Vanderbilt and his wife, Louise in 1898. It illustrates the opulence to which the "nouveaux-riches" of the era were accustomed. Its 50 rooms are packed to the seams with works of art and furniture from the Renaissance to Rococo periods. The park commands stunning views.
