At n° 39 Kerkplein, admire the graceful De Boterhal building (1563), an example of the Renaissance style. The sculptures on the façade are a reminder that the former St Jean's hospice was converted in 1841 into a covered butter market (1922-1954). Today, the Boterhal is a cultural centre.
