From Himeji JR station, this contemporary looking observation platform commands a splendid view over Japan's most beautiful castle. Built out of metal beams with a wooden floor, its open layout is reminiscent of a roof terrace. Once aligned with the castle, the outline of the great "white heron" can be seen less than a mile away at the end of Otemae-dori, as if in a picture frame. Below to the right, it is possible to make out the photogenic remains of the moat and the outer defensive walls of the fort.
