The new section of the Frans Hals museum is spread across three buildings (Verweyhal, 1879; Vishuisje, 1600; Vleeshal, 1604) overlooking the Grote Markt. In the same vein as the HOF, visitors here can learn about the complete historical chronology of art, in which contemporary artists play a leading role. The cellars of the Vleeshal are home to Haarlem's archaeological museum (the Archeologisch Museum Haarlem).
