The city's main ceremonial entrance and starting point of the Royal Way was built in 1574-1576 as an advance position of the medieval fortifications. It was here that the king received the keys from the municipal authorities. The coats of arms of Gdańsk (lions), Prussia (unicorns), and Poland (Ciołek clan) adorn the gate.
