Lake Matheson makes a wonderful tableau with Mount Cook and Mount Tasman. But the stars of Westland Tai Poutini National Park, a treasure house of nature on the UNESCO World Heritage List, are Fox Glacier and Franz Josef Glacier, 25 km away. There are numerous excursions available on these icy giants.
