Lagoa da Conceição is a large lake located at the centre of Santa Catarina Island; surrounded by mountains, it lies a stone's throw from the ocean. To explore it, take a boat from Lagoa. At the end of the lake is the little village of Costa da Lagoa, where it is worth stopping off for the little restaurants serving fish and prawns, before heading up the path to the lovely waterfall. A completely different - and very authentic - perspective on the island.
