A protected Natura 2000 area, Elafonissi beach is a victim of its own success: it is overrun by hordes of tourists in summer. However, you will appreciate the beauty of the setting, the crystal-clear water and the sandbanks sable forming a narrow, shallow trench. The island, opposite, is easily accessible on foot. Those in search of peace and quiet should make for Vimbrokambos, with its dunes framed by rocks and covered with cedars.
