The new Victoria Harbour was inaugurated in 1842 to allow for the increase in traffic. The old port, with its cobbled quayside and ruined ramparts, was built by Cromwell in 1650. With the arrival of the railway four years later, the harbour's activity began to decline. Yellow Craig, a red-tiled building with a dormer window, forms a sharp contrast with the modern architecture of the Basil Spence Housing Complex, built between the two harbours.
