Sir Alfred Chester Beatty (1875-1968) collected religious manuscripts and art from Europe, Persia, the Far East and Asia. This museum showcases, in particular, Arabic, Persian and Turkish manuscripts, including over 270 copies of the Qur'an, some illuminated by the greatest calligraphers. Japanese and Chinese art features high-quality paintings and prints. There are also some major works and engravings by Dürer, Goya, Holbein et al.
