In 1965, heritage advocates launched a battle to have 17 buildings from the 1870s to 1890s renovated. In 1973, their efforts culminated in Larimer Square, a lively and welcoming street section that is a square in name only. The 1990s saw a flurry of projects, and LoDo (Lower Downtown) became Denver's busiest neighbourhood, with renovated premises and warehouses now housing restaurants, clubs, shops, galleries and apartments.
