The centre of each dwelling is the courtyard around which the various rooms are grouped. The ground floor was often occupied by shops, as in the House of Dionysus. A little further on, the House of the Trident has a peristyle courtyard whose mosaic floor represents a trident, a dolphin wrapped around an anchor and an urn. On the right, the House of Cleopatra and Dioscourides bears the names of its owners, whose statues stand amidst the ruins.
