Founded in the 17C, this charming fishing village retains a 1643 Spanish fortress standing at the river mouth, dispelling the notion that the history of Cojímar, nowadays a suburb of Havana, only began with the arrival of Ernest Hemingway, who immortalised this place in The Old Man and the Sea.
