The village of Chiang Khong stands along the banks of the Mekong River. It's best to arrive by boat, as the river here is channelled into a very impressive canyon with walls rising to a height of 60m. Almost as impressive is the pla buk, a huge catfish so highly prized by local fisherman that is now on the verge of extinction.
