The intersection of Broad Street and Meeting Street is graced with public buildings that represent state, federal and municipal law, hence its nickname, the "Four Corners of Law". These include the Charleston County Court House built in 1788 (state law), the Renaissance Revival U.S. Court House and Post Office built in 1896 (federal law), the Palladian-style City Hall built in 1801 (municipal law), and the Georgian-style St. Michael's Episcopal Church (God's law).
