The Kulturforum, designed at the end of the 1950s, was created to house West Berlin's works of art (most of the city's cultural monuments were situated in East Berlin at the time). The museum, dedicated to music and the arts, is home to the Art Gallery, Decorative Arts Museum, Department of Prints and Engravings, New National Gallery, a Philharmonic Concert Hall and the Museum of Musical Instruments. The Kulturforum now stands in the heart of unified Berlin, near the huge Potsdamer Platz.
