This small perfectly proportioned monument designed by Schinkel (1818) has the appearance of a temple fronted by Doric columns. In 1993, it became the main monument to "the victims of war and dictatorship". Inside, a reproduction of the moving sculpture, Mother with her Dead Son, by Käthe Kollwitz, stands alone, illuminated by light falling vertically from above.
