In the heart of Maramureş, the well-preserved Iza Valley has an incredible wealth of wooden architecture. As you pass from village to village, you will see the work of the carpenters who left behind a legacy of superb UNESCO-listed wooden churches: for example, at Bârsana, but also Botiza and the wooden cathedral of Ieud, which seems to synthesise all the churches in the region.
