This museum, in the hills above the town, houses the monumental Early Bourgeois Revolution in Germany by Werner Tübke. The 123m x 14m canvas depicts the 1525 rebellion in which 6 000 peasants attempted to overthrow the secular authorities. They were led by Thomas Münzer, a reformationist who wanted to establish the kingdom of God on Earth. He was beheaded and most of the rebels were massacred.
