At the entrance to Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, an avenue passes in front of a reclining Buddha (7m long) leading to an unusual small altar laden with myriad objects. Devotees leave these objects here for the spirit said to occupy the complex. The avenue to the left leads to the cloisters, the setting for an imposing chedi, which is surrounded by saffron-draped Buddhas in perfect symmetry. In the middle of a beautiful garden planted with bougainvillea, a monument built in 1592 by King Naresuan commemorates his victory over the Burmese.
