The "pont d'Avignon", as immortalised in the famous song, was originally 900m in length with 22 arches, spanning the Rhone as far as the Philippe-le-Bel tower in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon. Standing on one of the bridge's supports, the chapel of St-Nicholas features two sanctuaries, one on top of the other.
