In a green beech forest from which a flock of birds flew from when he blessed it, Saint Bernardino of Sienna founded this retreat. Francis and his disciples liked to retire there treating it as a prison to clean their souls of "The tiniest speck of dust from their contact with the rest of humanity". Narrow passageways take you to the refectory and the cave in which the Saint's soul was cleansed.
