These gorges - part of Vatnajökull National Park since 2008 - are a must, if only to see the three spectacular waterfalls, Dettifoss (one of the most beautiful in the country), Selfoss and Hafragilsfoss, which are nothing short of national monuments, as well as its canyon with its 100m-high basalt walls. The perfect area for some unforgettable hiking.
