This preserve on the Mexican border is home to unique flora, such as creosote bushes with tiny leaves and yellow flowers and the typical cacti of the region, with their slender pipe-like branches growing vertically from ground level. Two scenic routes allow visitors to explore the park: Ajo Mountain Drive (21mi) winds along the foothills of the 4,800ft Ajo Range and Puerto Blanco Drive (53mi) heads to the west. The park also boasts numerous hiking trails.
