Lying between the Tyrol and Bavaria, the Alpenpark Karwendel Nature Reserve covers four mountain ranges and three main valleys. It has an area of 900km2 and is the only one of its kind in central Europe: small gorges and steep ridges alternate with green meadows and dense forest, where a number of endangered species of plant and animal find a last refuge.
