Refuge, zoo and breeding centre for endangered and mistreated wild animals, Phnom Tamao Wildlife Sanctuary is home to over 1000 animals, including tigers, elephants, gibbons..., many of whom were rescued from hunters and poachers. Stretching over 2,000ha/5,000 acres, this rescue centre is a slice of tropical jungle less than an hour from the capital: a worthwhile undertaking that also makes for an interesting day out.
