On the Eastern fjords route, and north of a Viking village that is, to say the least, incongruous in this natural setting, the majestic Vestrahorn looms up, with its colours and reliefs that call to mind New Zealand. The beach before it, with its wet sand, is a photographer's dream: the reflections of the mountain in the sand are an invitation to artistic audacity. Vatnajökull is visible to the east, and the green heathland in the middle of the little black sand dunes awaken the imagination.
