Starting from Cooke City, the road climbs gradually, skirting scenic lakes, and then does a series of sharp bends and climbs. The views become truly jaw-dropping after Beartooth Pass (3337m/10948ft) and the vast summit plateau is covered in wildflowers in summer framed by jagged peaks all around.
