The historic Het Predikheren served as a convent and military hospital from the 17C. Today it has morphed into a venue devoted to culture and fine dining. The left wing is home to this vibrant, modern eatery starring Jenny Callens in the unstarched, buzzy dining room, while veteran chef Ken Verschueren joyfully dusts the cobwebs off culinary tradition. Ideal to dig into Franco-Belgian grub, free of fussy, futile frills and at prices that make sense. It would be a crime to miss the lunchtime menu that changes daily. The chef demonstrates his love of fine produce, crafting dishes that bear witness to his consummate flair for contrast. Crab is a staple on the menu, with, for example, North Sea crab cannelloni, set off by a stunning marriage of tangy grapefruit and fresh, crisp fennel. Chef Verschueren deploys the full gamut of his culinary mastery in chilled seabass and crispy cuttlefish dotted with playful touches, like a perfectly judged dollop of soy sauce on fieduà pasta and its accompanying cuttlefish sauce. Tinèlle is synonymous with crisp, legible, fuss-free flavours and authentic sauces. The knockout wine list further confirms the establishment’s dedication to quality.
