Discovered in 1939, this palace from the 13C BC was renamed in honour of the mythical king of Pylos. It is in fact the heart of Ancient Pylos, capital of one of the main centres of Mycenaean culture (17C-12C BC). This royal complex is one of the best-preserved Mycenaean palaces, and the absence of ramparts lends it a peaceful atmosphere. The discovery on the site of 1 250 terracotta tablets inscribed with Linear B helped decipher this ancient Greek script.
