The fortress at Moritzburg (destroyed during the Thirty Years War) today houses numerous temporary exhibitions as well as the finest art collection in Saxony-Anhalt. The collection, devoted to German painting and sculpture of the 19C and 20C, includes first-class works by the Romantic, Impressionist, Expressionist and Die Brücke movements. A few rooms are dedicated to the exhibition of older works of art.
